Role
The Highways Section is the custodian of all public highways, bridges, docks, and coastline works, and management of works for private roads. It includes the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of highways. Work also includes re-surfacing roads, signage and markings, constructing bus shelters and completing other new driveways, and parking areas.

Public Roads
This includes the following:
- Asphalt maintenance – pothole repair
- Asphalt resurfacing
- Bus lay-by and shelter construction and maintenance
- Drainage system construction and maintenance
- Hedge trimming
- Pedestrian crossings
- Road and junction improvements
- Road marking installation and maintenance
- Road side fencing construction and maintenance
- Road sweeping
- Traffic sign installation and maintenance

Private Roads
At the request of landowners it coordinates the design, construction and repair of private roads. This work is funded jointly from landowners and Government.
